A Team Approach
HealthSpring Fitness: Not an Ordinary Gym
NorthBay HealthSpring Fitness is Solano County’s only medical fitness center and membership is open to the public. But you don’t have to be a member to participate in Movement is Medicine. In this program, local physicians don’t just prescribe exercise as a form of medicine, but communicate with a fitness specialist to help create a specific and progressive fitness routine to fit their patient’s needs.
“A big part of it is building the client’s confidence so they can work toward those goals and flourish on their own, not just when a fitness specialist is around,” said Julie Cassara, fitness specialist.
HealthSpring Fitness is managed by EXOS|Medifit, a worldwide industry leader in training professional athletes, the military and Fortune 500 companies, among others.
The initial launch involved NorthBay physicians, but has since been opened to providers outside of NorthBay Healthcare.
Although insurance will not cover the cost, special introductory package prices are available.
Qualifying conditions to participate in the program can include transition from physical therapy to post rehabilitation, managing an existing medical condition, needing to improve strength or lose weight in preparation for a medical procedure.
“We’re seeing great results with our clients who have Type 2 diabetes, people who are dealing with more progressive conditions such as arthritis, MS and Parkinson’s. We are also seeing people with cerebral palsy and stroke increase mobility and gain strength,” said Julie. “We are so pleased with Movement is Medicine and feel fortunate to have a facility that can accommodate the program and support its participants.”
