Focusing on Children

This year, the emergency departments of our two hospitals expect about 10,000 visits from pediatric patients, those vulnerable young people who come with a fever, an aching tummy, a broken arm, and unfortunately, some things worse.

While NorthBay Healthcare has been busy developing new advanced medical services for women, heart attack patients and those with neurological injuries, we have not forgotten the children. From birth, to the almost inescapable visit to the ER, and all through the growing years, young patients get our full attention.

In this issue of Wellspring you will learn a lot about the breadth of services for young patients, and hear from some of them how they benefited from our care.

This year we expect to earn designation as Solano County’s first EDAP—an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics. To achieve that status, we must prove that we stand ready when a child arrives in need of prompt care. We know that a child’s medical needs are quite different from an adult’s.

Our Level III NorthBay Trauma Center and our respected Neonatal Intensive Care Unit distinguish us from the other healthcare providers in Solano County. Our care is complemented by our partnerships with pediatric trauma centers at UC Davis Medical Center and Children’s Hospital Oakland.

The most seriously injured children will be cared for by these regional centers. But our around-the-clock hospital-based pediatricians can admit and care for most youngsters.

Our Center for Primary Care and its three locations in Fairfield and Vacaville buttress our pediatric care system. The number of pediatricians and family practice physicians who have chosen to practice medicine at NorthBay Healthcare has grown steadily over the last decade, a sign of our commitment to our family, friends and neighbors, regardless of their ability to afford quality care.

Enjoy this edition of Wellspring. We are proud of our dedicated, highly skilled team that is here when you need it.
