Meet the Mako SmartRobotics System, the latest in advanced technology that NorthBay Health offers its patients. Mako joins the da Vinci Xi Robotic surgical system, used in a variety of complex procedures, and the Monarch robotic system, which is used to find nodules in the lungs.

The Mako will be deployed during joint replacement surgery by Michael Caravelli, M.D., who joined NorthBay Health Orthopedics this spring.

Dr. Caravelli’s specialties include anterior hip replacement, complex knee and revision surgery using the Mako system. He doesn’t just use the Mako, he’s a Mako SmartRobotics Surgeon who travels as a roving instructor and consultant for systems.

Mako SmartRobotics creates a 3D model using a CT scan, which enables Dr. Caravelli to be precise in every action, whether he is removing damaged bone and cartilage or aligning an implant.
