Partners Take on Operation PROMises Again

NorthBay Healthcare and Soroptimist International of Vacaville are once again teaming up with a number of local businesses to put together a special one-day event called “Operation PROMises” for local teenage girls who cannot otherwise afford to attend their proms.

Donations from the public of gently used formal gowns, shoes, jewelry and wraps are welcome. Donations are tax deductible and can be dropped off at Secondhand Rose Thriftique, 322 Parker St., in downtown Vacaville by Feb. 24. Organizers are inviting seamstresses to volunteer, either in advance or on the day of the event, March 11.

“We have some dresses that, with slight modifications, could make for a perfect prom gown,” said coordinator Jessica Johnson.

Last year, nearly 80 girls from schools in Vacaville, Fairfield, Dixon, Suisun City and Vallejo received dresses through the program. Businesses donated dinners, hair styling and manicures, and more to support the program.

Girls must receive an invitation to attend through their high school. Organizers are working with the schools to get the invitations delivered this month. To nominate a deserving young lady for an invitation, call Jessica at (707) 646-3303.
